It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Captain John Whitney, IAFF 3rd District Local 2548, Greenfield, Massachusetts. Brother Whitney, 56, passed away on July 22, 2026, from occupational cancer. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, 16 Court Square, Greenfield, Massachusetts 01301.
